Indian Army and Naga rebels firefight in Indo-Myanmar border

The Indian Army attacked Naga rebels in an encounter along the Indo-Myanmar border. The operation was not said to be a ‘surgical strike’ . On Twitter, the Army’s Eastern Command released information about the operation, that there are high casualties among Army personnel.

“A column of the Indian Army while operating along the Indo-Myanmar border was fired upon by unidentified insurgents. Our troops reacted swiftly and brought down heavy retaliatory fire on the insurgents. The insurgents then broke contract and fled,” said the army statement.

The conflict in northeastern Indian State Nagaland, is an ongoing conflict fought between the Nagas and the governments of India and Myanmar. Nagas inhabited Nagaland is located at the tri-junction border of India on the West, South & north and Myanmar on the East. The current Nagaland state is only a small part of Naga Hills and huge portion of Naga Hills was/is placed in Manipur, Assam and Arunachal. The land of Nagas was divided among two countries, India and Myanmar which led to the start of several Naga rebel groups
